Utah honored with national innovation award

The National Association of State Chief Information Officers (NASCIO) announced its 2017 Recognition Awards for outstanding achievement in information technology in state government. Utah.Gov online services were recognized in seven categories. NASCIO recognizes exemplary initiatives in 11 categories.

“Providing services online is an important part of our strategy to increase efficiency in state government,” said Mike Hussey, Chief Information Officer for the state of Utah. “When Utah is recognized by an organization like NASCIO, it validates our objectives in a very satisfying way.”

Utah’s Driver License Appointment and Public Meeting Notice Reminders were selected as the winner for Emerging and Innovative Technologies in the public sector. The services take advantage of Google Now to help residents of Utah improve attendance at public meetings and driver license appointments.

“It is great to receive recognition for a wide variety of services,” said Mike Hussey, state Chief Information Officer. “We work hard to provide residents’ the very best online experience and ease interactions with state government.”

This is the 29th consecutive year for NASCIO to honor outstanding information technology achievements in the public sector. Recipients are chosen by the NASCIO Awards Committee from a field of more than 100 nominees. The awards were announced at the NASCIO Annual Conference in Austin.
