Romney to headline Utah County GOP fundraiser

Mitt Romney is scheduled to headline the Utah County GOP Lincoln Day dinner next month.

Romney has been tapped to deliver the keynote address for the traditional party fundraising dinner on February 16.

The UCRP is offering tickets to a VIP reception with Romney and Gov. Gary Herbert for $100.

It is widely believed the former GOP presidential nominee is readying a campaign for the U.S. Senate seat left open in 2018 following Sen. Orrin Hatch’s retirement. Several of Romney’s close associates have said as much.

Romney held a strategy meeting with several political advisers at his Holladay mansion last week ahead of a possible run.

Romney has declined to say anything about a possible Senate run during recent public appearances in Utah. However, since the Lincoln Day Dinner is a political event, it would be no stretch of the imagination to think Romney will make his official announcement that he’s running either before or at the fete.

Not to be outdone, the Iron County GOP has announced that former U.S. Rep. Ron Paul will be their keynote speaker on Feb. 22 at Southern Utah University.
