Sorry Democrats, Utah is a Solidly Republican State

A new survey confirms what everybody already knew…a clear majority of Utahns are Republicans, and even more say their political beliefs are conservative.

The polling from Dan Jones and Associates, sponsored by the Olene Walker School of Politics at Weber State University, says 52% of Utahns identify as members of the Republican party. That’s in stark contrast to the 12% who say they are Democrats or the 26% who are independents.

Even worse for Democrats, 58% describe their personal politics as either “very conservative” or “somewhat conservative.” Just 14% say their personal political beliefs are either “very” or “somewhat liberal.”

That’s a sharp dagger to the belief that most Utahns are independent voters who like to eschew party labels.
