The polling from Dan Jones and Associates, sponsored by the Olene Walker School of Politics at Weber State University, says 52% of Utahns identify as members of the Republican party. That’s in stark contrast to the 12% who say they are Democrats or the 26% who are independents.
Even worse for Democrats, 58% describe their personal politics as either “very conservative” or “somewhat conservative.” Just 14% say their personal political beliefs are either “very” or “somewhat liberal.”
That’s a sharp dagger to the belief that most Utahns are independent voters who like to eschew party labels.
