Department of Commerce announces new Deputy Director and new Director to Division of Securities

Francine A. Giani, Executive Director of the Utah Department of Commerce, announced that Thomas A. Brady has been selected as the new Director of the Division of Securities to replace outgoing Director Keith Woodwell.  Woodwell previously served over 9 years with the Division of Securities and has accepted an attorney position with Clyde, Snow and Sessions. 

“Keith Woodwell has been a great asset to our Division of Securities and we wish him well in his new career path,” stated Francine A. Giani, “I am confident Tom Brady will maintain the Division’s success moving forward.”

Giani also announced that Jacob Hart has been promoted to Deputy Director of the Department of Commerce from the Division of Consumer Protection. Hart is an attorney who graduated from BYU with a bachelor’s degree in Economics and J. Reuben Clark Law School cum laude.

“I am also pleased to welcome Jacob Hart as my new Deputy Director in Administration.  His legal background in Consumer Protection will be a plus to our agency, “remarked Giani.

About Thomas A. Brady

Thomas A. Brady has served as Commerce Deputy Director for the past 5 years and was previously with the Utah Division of Securities for over 3 years both as a Securities Analyst and as Director of Enforcement.  He has been an expert witness in multiple securities cases, been designated as a special prosecutor, and has served as an Administrative Law Judge for various Boards within the Department of Commerce.  Brady graduated with a Juris Doctor from Michigan State University College of Law.  Brady earned his undergraduate degree from Brigham Young University with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science.  He is married with five children and resides in Centerville, UT. 

About Jacob Hart

Jacob Hart has been a legal analyst with the Division of Consumer Protection since August 2015.  He graduated from BYU with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Economics and earned his Juris Doctor from BYU’s J. Reuben Clark Law School graduating cum laude. While at BYU, he was Senior Editor for BYU Law Review and a member of BYU Men’s Chorus and BYU Singers.  Hart is married with four children and resides in Riverton, UT.
