The annual Met Gala in New York City is the biggest night in fashion. So, attendees were surprised to see Mitt and Ann Romney show up for the high-society affair on Monday.
Time says Twitter was a-flutter with what was described as the “most surprising” celebrity sighting of the evening.
From Rihanna to Donatella Versace, fashionistas show off their wildest costumes in line with the night’s theme, which this year is Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination.
So when 2012 Republican nominee for President Mitt Romney rolled up on the red carpet, some observers reacted with confusion. The former Governor of Massachusetts, who is currently running for a Utah Senate seat, arrived with his wife, Ann Romney.
A spokesperson for Romney told UtahPolicy.com: “Mitt was invited by a long time business friend who co-chaired the event. He was delighted to take Ann to such a spectacular affair and said she was the most stunning person there.”
