Governor Mitt Romney to keynote USTAR’s Utah Technology Innovation Summit

The Utah Science Technology and Research Initiative announced Governor Mitt Romney will give the keynote address at the Utah Technology Innovation Summit on June 6

Governor Romney will address the role of innovation, science, and technology in economic development, alongside additional featured speakers and breakout presenters throughout the Summit, including Utah Governor Gary R. Herbert.

Governor Romney is currently running for U.S. Senate in Utah. In 2012, he was the Republican presidential nominee and was a candidate for the 2008 Republican presidential nomination. He served as the Governor of Massachusetts from 2003 through 2007 and led the 2002 Winter Olympic Games in Salt Lake City.

During his time as governor, Romney promoted the growth of Massachusetts’ robust innovation ecosystem and maintained the state’s competitive edge as the nation’s leader in deep technology and sciences.

The Utah Technology Innovation Summit, which will be held at the Salt Lake Marriott Downtown at City Creek on June 6, 2018, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., is Utah’s premier science and technology conference that aims to explore challenges and opportunities to stimulate economic development and commercial growth through innovation. The Summit brings together innovators, decision makers, thought leaders, investors and entrepreneurs to share best practices to catalyze growth in science, tech, innovation, and entrepreneurship across Utah.

Breakout sessions will explore the future of autonomous solutions, securing funding and strategic partnerships, best practices for effective governance, and the role of government in innovation.

The 2018 Utah Technology Innovation Summit will culminate in a lunchtime plenary session with an address from Governor Herbert, Governor Romney’s keynote speech, and the presentation of the Governor’s Medals for Science and Technology.  Now in their 31st year, the Governor’s Medals for Science and Technology are the highest civilian award bestowed by the State to Utah residents who have provided distinguished service or made significant contributions in scientific and technological fields.
