The Utah Office of Outdoor Recreation announced a series of statewide grant workshops to assist with the Outdoor Recreation Grant process.
The Utah Outdoor Recreation Grant program helps fund outdoor recreation infrastructure projects that aim to improve recreation amenities for residents as well as attract tourists to the region.
New this year, state and federal partners will participate in the grant workshops to teach attendees about the three major programs available to help increase recreation. These programs include the OOR’s Utah Outdoor Recreation Grant (UORG) program, the National Parks Service (NPS) Recreational Trails and Conservation Assistance (RTCA) program, and the Utah State Parks Recreational Trails Program (RTP). The Bureau of Land Management and Forest Service will also make brief presentations in the grant workshops.
“The new addition to the grant workshops exemplifies state and federal partnerships providing more value, opportunities and support for recreation in Utah communities,” said Tom Adams, director of the Utah Office of Outdoor Recreation. “The National Parks Service is willing to assist with planning, which can be especially beneficial for areas in the state that do not have recreational planners. Applicants can also now learn about optimizing federal funding through the RTP program, managed by Utah State Parks, to help meet outdoor recreation infrastructure goals.”

The OOR team will walk participants through the process to help them create a compelling grant submission. Also, partner organizations will present other grant opportunities available. Applications for next year’s UORG grant cycle will be accepted from Jan. 10 to Feb. 28, 2019.
In 2018, the Utah Outdoor Recreation Grant awarded funding for 58 outdoor recreation infrastructure projects statewide. The grant cycle was the largest to date awarding $4.3 million. The amounts ranged from $4,000 to $150,000 including matching funding per project. The Utah Outdoor Recreation Grant (UORG) expanded its grant contribution in 2018 with additional funding from the Transient Room Tax (TRT).
The Utah Outdoor Recreation Grant provides matching grant funding to local governments and nonprofits to build outdoor recreation infrastructures such as trails, boat ramps and more. In the 2019 grant cycle, award amounts will range from $5,000 to $150,000.
