Watch: Sen. Claire McCaskill says Washington is so polarized, she couldn’t go to Orrin Hatch’s retirement celebration

Sen. Claire McCaskill, who lost her bid for another term in Washington this year, says Congress is so polarized that Republicans and Democrats held separate dinners for their members who are leaving next year.

In an interview with C-SPAN, McCaskill said it’s a sad state of affairs that members are not allowed to honor their colleagues just because they belong to another party.

“Up until a few years ago that was always done with all of us together. Tonight, there will be two separate dinners. I don’t get that. I don’t get that. I want to hug Orrin Hatch and think him, we were friends and we worked together on some things. I want to celebrate Bob Corker, he is one of — one of my best buds. I think we should be together for things like that,” said McCaskill.
