Rep. Chris Stewart says expects the final report by special counsel Robert Mueller to be a whimper rather than a “political bomb.” He also said Speaker Nancy Pelosi was trying to silence President Donald Trump by rescheduling the State of the Union Address.

Stewart appeared on CNN’s Situation Room Wednesday, and was asked by Wolf Blitzer what he thought would come out of the investigation into connections between the Trump campaign and Russia.

“I don’t think the Mueller report is going to be an enormous event. I don’t think it’s this political bomb that goes off,” said Stewart. “In fact, many of those who seem to have information regarding the report are trying to downplay some of the expectations.”

Stewart added he wants to see the report released publicly. Attorney General nominee William Barr has said he’s not certain the final product will be made public.

Blitzer also asked Stewart about House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s request that President Donald Trump postpone his State of the Union Address until after the government shutdown is over.

“I think it’s disingenuos. I think it’s nuts for the Speaker to say we should reschedule or dis-invite the president,” he said.

Stewart added he did not believe Speaker Pelosi’s rationale for the request, that the shutdown presented a security risk for the president.

“The speaker primarily wants the president not to have an opportunity to speak directly to the American people, especially about border security that has been such a divisive issue. Her objective is to take away the microphone from the president, not because she’s concerned about security,” said Stewart.
