Sen. Mike Lee set the internet abuzz this week with a prop comedy speech on the Senate floor mocking the Green New Deal climate policy. CBS late-night host Stephen Colbert roundly mocked Lee for the address.
During the speech, Lee used several pictures, including one of former President Ronald Reagan riding a dinosaur, to ridicule proposal. He also said the solution to climate change is “to fall in love, get married, and have some kids.”
Colbert let loose on Lee for the remarks.
“President Trump isn’t the only Republican speaking out against the Green New Deal. So is Utah Senator, and driver’s ed teacher who is about to become your stepdad, Mike Lee,” said Colbert.
Following the speech, Democrat Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez popped Lee on Twitter saying “If this guy can be Senator, you can do anything.” Colbert piled on saying, “Maybe it’s good that sea levels are rising, because Mike Lee’s gonna need some water for that burn.”
Colbert then unveiled several pictures of his own to poke fun at Lee, calling him the “Jar Jar Binks of the Senate.”
