Former Utah Rep. Mia Love has had enough of President Trump’s Twitter attacks on his political foes and minority members of Congress.
On CNN’s State of the Union, Love said Trump’s broadsides against Democratic Rep. Elijah Cummings and the city of Baltimore were a bridge too far for her.
“The president has gone way too far,” she said. “In the recent tweets and the things I have seen, enough is enough.”
Love added Trump’s social media tirades are playing right into the hands of foreign adversaries.
“I think this is exactly what the Russians want. It’s exactly what our enemies want, to see Americans tear each other up. It really is disheartening. The greatest threat we face if the division of America, and I don’t think any president should be playing a part in the dividing of America.
On Saturday, Trump attacked Cummings, who is African-American, claiming “His district is considered the Worst in the USA,” also calling Baltimore “rat and rodent infested.”
Trump continued his attacks on Cummings Sunday, tweeting he “has done a very poor job for his district and the City of Baltimore.”
Earlier in July, Trump came under fire for a series of racist Twitter posts attacking four Democratic women of color.
Love said Republicans need to push back against Trump because his rhetoric is damaging to the country.
“The problem I have is the President of the United State is supposed to represent all Americans, and when you go after Americans, you can go after their policies, you can even go after them when they say things you disagree with. But, when your words hurt Americans and divide us, that is unacceptable to me.”
Love added Republicans can no longer ignore Trump and his social media outbursts.
“Republicans can’t get out of this one. I want to remind everyone Republicans are not racist. The policies we believe in are good for everybody. We should be talking about that,” said Love.
