Stewart: Trump’s interactions with Ukraine had nothing to do with 2020 election

Rep. Chris Stewart said Thursday he does not believe President Trump urged Ukraine to interfere in the 2020 election by digging up dirt on former vice president Joe Biden, a potential rival next year.

“I don’t share the characterization that it had anything to do with the 2020 election,” said Stewart on Fox News. “I think it was probably a mistake.”

Stewart added that he was growing more confident that President Trump would not be impeached following the release of a whistleblower report alleging he pressured the president of Ukraine to investigate Biden and his son’s business dealings in that country.

“Most Americans are going to read this and scratch their head and say why is this impeachable what I’m reading here?” he said. “The question for all of the American people is this worth removing this man from office? I think we’re a long way from that kind of threshold.”
