After an extensive nationwide search, Salt Lake County Mayor Jenny Wilson is thrilled to announce Jojo Liu is joining the county team as the new Director of the Criminal Justice Advisory Council (CJAC).
Liu comes to Salt Lake County from the Utah Indigent Defense Commission where she has been working as the Assistant Director. In this position, Liu has focused on ensuring the right to effective counsel for children charged with offenses in the juvenile court system. Liu has extensive experience working with the state legislature and collaborating with diverse stakeholders to improve our justice system.
Previously, she was a law professor at the University of Utah S.J. Quinney School of Law and at Loyola Law School, Los Angeles, where she taught in the areas of criminal and juvenile justice. She was also the Clinical Director at the Center for Juvenile Law and Policy at Loyola Law School. Liu started her legal career at Legal Services for Children in New York City.
Community service is a big part of Liu’s life. She has enjoyed volunteering with the Utah State Bar, First Star Academy for Transitional Aged Youth in Foster Care at the University of Utah, and the Utah Board of Juvenile Justice.
“Jojo is a perfect fit to carry out our mission at CJAC. We are so excited for her to use her extensive experience in law to identify and implement research-based solutions to criminal justice challenges,” said Mayor Jenny Wilson.
Liu’s first day is January 6th.
