Utah Commissioner of Agriculture and Food Kerry Gibson stepped down from that post on Tuesday to launch a bid to replace retiring Rep. Rob Bishop in Congress.

In a news release announcing his candidacy, Gibson says he will “fight for our conservative values without apology.”

Gibson has previously served as a Utah State Representative, a Weber County Commissioner and the Deputy Director of the Utah Department of Natural Resources.

Other Republican candidates who are running to replace Bishop include Morgan County Council member Tina Cannon, Kaysville Mayor Katie Witt, Clearfield Mayor Mark Shepherd, Davis County Commissioner Bob Stevenson, Howard Wallack and Taylor Lee.
