Salt Lake Chamber President and CEO Derek Miller issued the following statement regarding recommendations by Governor Gary R. Herbert, Lt. Governor Spencer Cox, and the Utah Department of Health:

“The Salt Lake Chamber is grateful to Governor Herbert for his leadership and supports recommendations to prevent the spread of the coronavirus in Utah. While the health consequences of COVID-19 in the state are limited at this time, economic consequences will be felt by everyone. The Governor’s recommendations are designed to minimize the impact on the health of both individuals and the economy.

“The Chamber pledges its resources to help mitigate the coronavirus, protect Utahns and our economy against further disruption and promote best practices within the business community. As part of this effort, the Salt Lake Chamber has established slchamber.com/coronavirus as a clearinghouse to provide information and active measures that employers and employees can take for prevention.

“We join the Governor and the COVID-19 Task Force in encouraging the business community to begin implementing telework plans as soon as and wherever possible and to be flexible with leave policies as encouragement for sick employees to stay home. Preventing spread of the coronavirus now will minimize consequences to the economy in both impact and duration.”
