Derek Miller, president and CEO of the Salt Lake Chamber, congratulated the new slate of candidates who will lead Utah into the future, including the state’s new governor-elect, Spencer Cox.

“We congratulate our new Governor-Elect, Lt. Governor Spencer Cox, on his election as governor. We recognize him for championing Utah’s values and being a model of civility in the recently-concluded election. Governor-Elect Cox ran a dynamic campaign that focused on every corner of our state. He engaged the electorate and provided an example of how constructive campaigns can be successful, particularly as they are consistent with our values. It’s clear that Utah welcomed that approach and knows the Lt. Governor’s record of leadership and his vision for the future.

“Our congressional candidates remain a model of excellence when it comes to representation and getting things done for Utahn’s in Washington, D.C. We recognize and congratulate Blake Moore on running an impressive campaign and joining the ranks of our federal delegation, confident that his experience in the Foreign Service, Intelligence Community, and healthcare field will serve Utah well.

“Chris Stewart continues to be an example of service and pragmatism in Congress as Utah’s 2nd district representative. His background and commitment to our nation make him an strong voice on the House Intelligence and Appropriations Committee and here in our community, and he embodies the values revered by Utahns, including his distinguished military service.

“We congratulate John Curtis, who will continue to represent Utah’s Third Congressional District. He has proven that his experience serving the wonderful people of Provo have prepared him for continued service to his constituents and the state at large. The Salt Lake Chamber is grateful for his advocacy for small businesses, and we look forward to continuing to work with him — along with our other federal, state, and local leaders to keep Utah’s economy strong.

“Along with all the many capable newly-elected local officials, we want to specifically recognize and congratulate Salt Lake County Mayor-elect Jenny Wilson on her successful campaign to lead the county. Mayor Wilson has been a vital part of the Chamber’s work during her years in office, as we support businesses, the economy, and the individuals and families who depend on them. Mayor Wilson’s leadership will be critical as we continue to to move forward, particularly as we work through the pandemic.”

“While not all of the other election outcomes are known due to continued vote counting, we encourage patience at this time to let our electoral system work to finish the tally. We look forward to celebrating and working with the rest of the winners once the process is complete, and I remind everyone of our statement last week that now is the time to come together and solve problems for business and the community. We pledge to lead the way in this effort by convening the business community and civic leaders to do our part to help our state thrive.”
