1979 – Philadelphia 76ers center Darryl Dawkins shatters his first backboard when he slam-dunks the basketball over Bill Robinzine of the Kansas City Kings.

1982 – The Vietnam Veterans Memorial is dedicated in Washington, D.C. after a march to its site by thousands of veterans.

2015 – ISIL stages a series of terrorist attacks in Paris, killing 131 and injuring over 400. It was the deadliest day in France since WWII.
