President Adams statement on Hemmert appointment

SALT LAKE CITY – President J. Stuart Adams issued the following statement regarding the announcement that Sen. Dan Hemmert will be the Executive Director of Utah Governor’s Office of Economic Development:

“Sen. Hemmert is one of the most decent human beings and public servants I’ve had the honor of working with. Dan has been an outstanding majority whip, senator, colleague and friend, always collaborating to find the best policy for all Utahns. I’m very proud of our work, especially this past year, as he led the Public Health and Economic Emergency Commission providing essential COVID-19 input and recommendations.

“The Senate and Legislature will greatly miss Sen. Hemmert and his steadfast devotion to public service. I’m confident that he will continue to work tirelessly to deliver positive results for Utahns and our great state in his new role.

“I encourage the Utah County Republican Party to promptly fill the upcoming vacancy and submit a name to the Governor to ensure constituents of District 14 are represented during the upcoming general session.”

Once the governor appoints an individual to fill the Hemmert’s Senate vacancy, the Senate Majority caucus will hold a Majority Whip leadership election. The process is anticipated to be completed before the 2021 General Session.
