  • 1912 – Margaret Wade is born. She won state and regional championships as a semi-professional basketball player, became a high school coach in 1935 and set a lifetime record of 453 wins, 89 losses and 6 ties.
  • 1916 – Grigori Rasputin, Russia’s “Mad Monk” and spiritual advisor to the Romanovs, is murdered.
  • 1922 – the USSR is established
  • 1936 – 136,000 union workers stage the first United Auto Workers sit-down strike in Flint, Michigan
  • 1965 – Ferdinand Marcos inaugurated president of the Philippines. 
  • 1975 – Tiger Woods is born
