Situational Analysis – January 18, 2021

It’s the 3rd Monday in January, the day all 50 states recognize the contributions of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

King was arrested on numerous times, but on April 12, 1963, it was for disobeying a judge’s order prohibiting “parading, demonstrating, boycotting, trespassing and picketing.” A group of white Alabama clergymen issued a statement reiterating their call to stop marching, and called the peaceful protests “unwise and untimely.” They continuted to recommend that King and his supporters take their case to the courts. In response, Dr. King wrote his “Letter from a Birmingham Jail.” If you only have time to read one thing today, read that letter. If you have time for two things, also watch his “I Have a Dream” speech.
