Gov. Gary R. Herbert has named Justin Harding as his new chief of staff. Harding has served several members of Utah’s congressional delegation including his most recent position as chief of staff to Rep. Jason Chaffetz for the past five years.
He will assume his new role in the Governor’s Office effective June 16.
Harding has served Utah for nearly 14 years, working primarily in the U.S. House of Representative for members of Utah’s congressional delegation: Rep. James V. Hansen, Rep. Rob Bishop, and most recently, Rep. Chaffetz. As chief of staff to Rep. Chaffetz, he actively led staff and managed legislative, political, and constituent service agendas. In addition, he has been instrumental in ushering legislation vital to the State of Utah through the political process.
“Justin is a seasoned professional working on issues that significantly impact the people of our state,” said Gov. Herbert. “He is a proven leader and has demonstrated the ability to manage and establish both local and national relationships that I’m confident will benefit not only my administration, but the state as a whole.”
Harding will assume his new role June 16, taking over for Derek Miller, who will take over as president and CEO of the World Trade Center Utah.
“I am grateful for this new assignment and the opportunity to return to my home state and serve Gov. Herbert and the people of Utah,” said Harding. “Gov. Herbert has played a significant role in the remarkable success of the state. I look forward to advancing the governor’s agenda and personally contributing in a more direct way to the continued success of the Beehive State.”
Harding was born and raised in Iron and Beaver counties and graduated from Southern Utah University with honors in political science and a minor in small business management and entrepreneurship. Harding and his wife, Bridget, have six children.
