Davis Technical College announces opening of new program for incarcerated youth

The Division of Juvenile Justice Services (JJS) invites you to celebrate Davis Technical College Opening a new program for incarcerated youth on March 18.

            Date:  March 18, 2021

Time:  9:00 a.m. (Zoom only) 9:30-11:30 (Open House and Tour)

Address: 790 West 12th Street, Ogden, Utah 84404

This collaborative open house is to celebrate the higher education opportunities given to incarcerated youth housed at Mill Creek Youth Center in Ogden, Utah. Cost savings due to Juvenile Justice Reform has allowed Davis Technical College, Ogden School District and JJS to come together to better the youth we serve.

We will hear remarks from the following individuals about how the vocation program will provide the emerging adults with the skills to get high-paying jobs and become productive citizens.

  • Nate Winters, Deputy Director, JJS

  • Darin Brush, President and CEO, Davis Technical College (DTC)

  • Chris Hughes, Former Prison Inmate and DTC Student

  • Rocky Woodland, Former DTC Student

  • Darce Afuvai, Mill Creek Youth Center Director

Here is the agenda:

From 9-9:30 a.m., the speakers will give opening remarks virtually via this Zoom Link Here. A virtual tour will follow the remarks. Please do not plan to attend in person during this time, as it will be handled virtually and not in person.

Following the live stream, from 9:30-11:30, there will be an open house for visitors. There will be youth operating the equipment and available for interviews.* Please use the Calendly App for March 18 (link here) for in-person visits. This will allow us to have an idea of when you plan to attend, how many people will be in your group and will help us manage crowd flow.

Please follow COVID-19 protocol during visits and if you are not feeling well or cannot pass the screener, we ask that you not attend. Masks and hand sanitizer will be available for your convenience.

We look forward to this great opportunity, highlighting the changes to our Mill Creek Youth Center.
