Rep. Jason Chaffetz says the Obama administration should reverse course and require travel bans and quarantines of persons who’ve had direct contact with Ebola patients.

Rep. Jason Chaffetz took a jab at the government’s handling of Ebola as New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo repeated assurances that his state is prepared following a case confirmed in New York City.
“If you’ve had direct contact with an Ebola patient, somebody who had the disease, we’re going to have to put you in quarantine,” Chaffetz, a Utah Republican, said Friday on CNN’s “New Day.” “I just don’t think you can have somebody with direct contact with Ebola patients and then allow them to go bowling in New York City, that’s just not going to work.”
Chaffetz’s comments come as a 33-year-old New York physician, who had been working in West Africa with Doctors Without Borders, returned to New York and on Thursday was confirmed to have tested positive for the virus. The House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, of which Chaffetz is a member, will also be holding a hearing Friday into the handling of the Ebola threat.
