It took three rounds of voting before Utah County GOP delegates selected consultant Al Jackson to fill the seat of outgoing Senator John Valentine.
Jackson prevailed in the final round of voting over former Rep. Ken Sumsion by one vote, 140-139. Other candidates who were eliminated in early rounds of voting were current Rep. Keven Stratton and former Rep. Steve Sandstrom.
91 of the delegates in Senate District 14 did not vote in Saturday's election.
Jackson's name now goes to Governor Herbert for the final appointment. He will serve out the final two years of Valentine's term.
