Governor appoints Gardner to the 3rd District Court

Gov. Gary R. Herbert has appointed James D. Gardner as a judge to fill a vacancy on the 3rd District Court.

“I have full confidence in James Gardner and his ability to uphold the principles of justice.  I know that he will serve the 3rd District Court with dedication and integrity,” said Gov. Herbert.

Gardner is currently a partner at Snell & Wilmer L.L.P in Salt Lake City. His expertise includes commercial litigation, professional malpractice defense, financial services litigation, constitutional litigation and appellate advocacy.

“I am deeply honored by this appointment, and I want to thank Governor Herbert for giving me this opportunity to serve the people in the 3rd District,” Gardner said.  “If confirmed, I will do my best to validate the trust reposed in me and to fulfill the vitally important role that judges play in the administration of justice.”

Gardner was named Mountain States Super Lawyer for Business Litigation (2014) and recognized for business litigation in the Rising Stars Edition. He was named Utah Legal Elite in civil litigation from Utah Business magazine (2006-2014) and Top 100 National Verdicts of 2007 from Verdict Search ALM.

Gardner received a juris doctorate from Duke University School of Law (cum laude) and a bachelor’s degree from Brigham Young University (magna cum laude).

Subject to confirmation by the Utah State Senate, Gardner will fill the vacancy that will result from the retirement of Judge Denise Posse Lindberg on Jan. 1, 2015.
