A majority of Utahns support efforts by Utah lawmakers to wrest control of public lands in the state away from the federal government.
A new UtahPolicy.com survey finds 55% of Utahns back the fight to gain control of lands currently under the perview of the Bureau of Land Management and U.S. Forest Service. Just 36% are opposed.
71% of Republicans and 53% of independent voters support fighting for control of those lands. Not surprisingly 77% of Democrats are opposed
Lawmakers have allocated $2 million dollars for outside counsel to aid in the legal battle, and applications for interested firms began this week.
The survey was conducted by Dan Jones and Associates from February 2-9, 2015 among 606 registered Utah voters. It has a margin of error of +/- 3.98%.
