Events Set for Salt Lake, Tooele, and Utah Counties
The co-chairs of the Legislature's Prison Relocation Commission (PRC) will attend and participate in the three informational meetings hosted by the PRC. Events will be held in Salt Lake, Tooele, and Utah counties, home of the five potential sites for a new Utah State Correctional Facility.
"We’ve heard from citizens that they want PRC members to attend the informational meetings and hear first-hand their questions and concerns," said Rep. Brad Wilson, co-chair of the PRC with Sen. Jerry Stevenson. "We are committed to make this decision-making process as transparent as possible and encourage meaningful public participation."
Sponsored by the PRC, each event will start with an open house at which attendees can browse informational displays and speak with staff members from the PRC, the Utah Department of Corrections, the Commission on Criminal and Juvenile Justice, and the PRC's consultant team.
A moderated question-and-answer session will be held immediately following each open house to allow attendees an opportunity to ask questions, hear their neighbor's questions and concerns, and receive answers to those questions. To ensure that as many varied questions as possible are addressed, attendees will be invited to submit their questions before and during the Q&A session. Questions will be read by a moderator and answered by a panel of experts including at least one of the PRC co-chairs.
Open house displays will be available throughout the 4 to 9 p.m. time period. The Q&A sessions at each event will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Event dates and locations are as follows:
