Lane Beattie, president and CEO of the Salt Lake Chamber issued the following statement regarding Delta Air Lines and Virgin Atlantic’s announcement of direct flights from Salt Lake International airport and London’s Heathrow airport.
“The business community is thrilled with today’s announcement from Delta Air Lines and Virgin Atlantic to begin offering nonstop service from Salt Lake International to London’s Heathrow airport. Adding this service is yet another demonstration of Utah’s economic strength and growing worldwide business influence. Connecting Utah’s business community with a global city like London will bring even greater prosperity to the beehive state. Economically, connections like these matter.
“This direct connection links Salt Lake City with the largest and most important business center in Europe. As noted by Delta in its press release today, the Department of Transportation’s 2013 grant of antitrust immunity to the Delta-Virgin joint venture makes this new service possible.
“Salt Lake City serving as a hub that connects the international business community is important to our state’s growth. We continue to support efforts like these, as well as the redevelopment of the Salt Lake International Airport terminal that is being funded without any increase in taxes.”
