With school underway, and shorter fall and winter days fast approaching, students will soon find themselves riding and walking home in the dark.
On Tuesday, Sept. 15, the Salt Lake City Transportation Division, in partnership with the Utah Transit Authority, Bike Utah and the Sorenson Unity Center will provide free safety kits to young walkers and bikers to help ensure they’re properly equipped and visible to drivers.
The goal of the giveaway is to promote safety and prevent accidents through raising awareness about bicycle and pedestrian safety.
"Keeping neighborhoods and our families–especially our children–safe is a top priority for myself and our City transportation experts,” said Mayor Becker. “I hope parents and their students will join us to learn more about safe walking and bicycling habits.”
The free pedestrian and bicycle safety kits will be distributed at the Sorenson Unity Center, and will be available to students under the age of 18. There are a limited number of kits that will be available on a first come, first-serve basis.
