No Utahn has Ever Received a Vote for Speaker of the House

CongressMore than 550 members of Congress have received votes to become Speaker of the House. Utah is one of nine states that has never had a Representative receive a single vote for the speakership.

Smart Politics analyzed the 122 roll-call votes for House Speaker since 1789 and found that there have been approximately 41,000 votes cast. Not a single one of them has ever gone to someone from Utah.

The other states that have never received a vote for Speaker:

  • Alaska
  • Hawaii
  • Montana
  • New Mexico
  • North Dakota
  • South Dakota
  • West Virginia 
  • Wyoming

On the other end of the spectrum, the analysis finds Massachusetts leads the way with 20 Representatives winning the elections for Speaker, followed by Kentucky, Texas, Illinois, Ohio, Virginia, Maine, Pennsylvania, Indiana and George.
