One hundred sixteen people from 43 countries will become U.S. citizens Monday at a naturalization ceremony at the Utah State Capitol, hosted by Representative Norm Thurston, District 64, and the Utah House of Representatives.
Rep. Thurston and Nineveh Dinha will speak at the ceremony. Ms. Dinha is a former Fox 13 news anchor and currently manages Utah’s first online women’s magazine, yoUmag. She became a U.S. citizen in October of last year, and will share her family’s journey, as Christian Assyrians, from Iraq to Sweden to Utah.
“This is the first time in recent memory that the State Capitol has hosted a naturalization ceremony and I hope this will establish a new tradition for the House of Representatives,” said Thurston. “I am so pleased to participate in this special day and am excited to host this ceremony in the People’s House. Having been to these events with family members, I know how important this is to them and understand the sacrifices many have made in order to become part of the fabric of our society. I welcome them as equal partners in democracy.”
