Reid Under Scrutiny by Utah Attorney

Sen. Harry Reid is unhappy with Davis County Attorney Troy Rawlings, who’s opened an investigation into the Senate Minority Leader’s connections to the Mark Shurtleff public corruption case. Reid accuses Rawlings of floating “unsubstantiated allegations” to advance his political career. This is the same Harry Reid who repeatedly and brazenly lied from the Senate floor about Mitt Romney’s tax returns in the run-up to the 2012 presidential election, and then refused to apologize for it.

Reports The Hill:

Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) is under investigation by a local attorney in Utah.

Davis County Attorney Troy Rawlings, a Republican, said the investigation of the Democratic leader is linked to a probe into former Utah Attorney General Mark Shurtleff, who is facing public corruption charges but has denied wrongdoing.

“We are looking into allegations related to Senator Reid (and others) due to … the overlap in facts and multiple witnesses with the Mark Shurtleff case (Mr. Shurtleff himself even reported what he felt may be potential crimes) … [and] the direction of the evidence we have accumulated — it demands a thorough vetting by someone with authority,” Rawlings said in a written statement.

He added that “Shurtleff, Senator Reid and the others are presumed innocent and may in fact be innocent.

“However, to simply ignore and run from what has been presented by multiple witnesses and sources, and the potential impact on the Mark L. Shurtleff case, would mean I am either intentionally blind, or overly worried,” he added in the statement, which was first reported by the Salt Lake City Weekly.

Rawlings does not specify in his statement what the allegations against Reid are. He’s previously called on the federal government to investigate the Nevada Democrat over campaign contributions centering around local businessman Jeremy Johnson.
