Utah GOP, Lt. Governor’s Office Differ on SB54 Interpretations

UTGOP Logo 02Utah GOP Chairman James Evans sent a letter (which you can see below) to Lt. Gov. Spencer Cox regarding the latest round of legal wrangling about SB54. Cox responded on November 19 (that letter is also below).

Evans’ letter seeks clarification from the state on the court ruling which struck down parts of SB54 as unconstitutional. Evans also says he believes the only way the issue can be resolved is in court.

Here’s the letter.

Cox’s response clarifies that the state believes a “qualified political party” must allow candidates to choose between the caucus/convention system or signature gathering to get on the ballot, and his office would not sustain any objection by a party.
