The Salt Lake Chamber, Utah’s largest and longest-standing statewide business association, has announced that Ron Jibson will be honored as the 37th Giant in Our City.
The award honors those with exceptional and distinguished service and extraordinary professional achievement, and is widely recognized as the most prestigious business award given in Utah. Jibson will be the 37th person to receive the award in its 46-year history.
“I’ve know Ron for a number of years, and I can’t think of a more deserving recipient,” said Lane Beattie, president and CEO of the Salt Lake Chamber. “His contributions to the business community are surpassed only by his dedication to the important issues of our great state.”
Currently, Jibson serves as President and CEO of Questar Corporation, a natural gas and energy company. He was appointed as Questar’s chairman of the board in July 2012. He also serves as a director of National Fuel Gas Corporation; IDACORP/ Idaho Power Co; Doc Warner’s Alaskan Fishing; and the Gas Technology Institute. He is a past chair of the American Gas Association and the Western Energy Institute, the primary national and regional natural gas trade organizations.
Jibson’s community involvement is as extensive as his professional background. Presently, Jibson is chair of Utah State University’s board of trustees, and serves on the boards of the Utah Symphony/Opera and the Women’s Leadership Institute. In the past, he has worked as chairman of the Salt Lake Chamber; EDCUtah Corporation; Junior Achievement of Utah; Davis County Chamber of Commerce; and the USU Engineering Advisory Board.
“So many Utahns have been touched by Ron’s influence,” said Lori Chillingworth, chair of the Salt Lake Chamber Board of Governors. “He brings energy to our homes, he serves on boards within our community, and he works tirelessly to improve the lives of those around him. We could not be more thrilled to be honoring Ron as a Giant in our City.”
Jibson has also been the recipient of numerous other awards and recognitions, including: Honorary Doctorate, Salt Lake Community College; Utah State University Alumnus of the Year; Utah State University Engineering Distinguished Alumnus; Westminster College Alumnus of the Year; Diabetes Association Father of the Year; Multiple Sclerosis Society T.K. McCarthey Silver Hope Award; Junior Achievement, Utah Business Hall of Fame; and United Way, Compassionate Leader Award.
JIbson will officially be presented with the award at the ceremony on April 12, 2016, at the Grand America Hotel in Salt Lake City
