Senate President Wayne Niederhauser, R-Sandy, says this year’s legislative session is ahead of the game when it comes to the budget.
“The budget is done two or three days ahead of where it was the last year and the year before,” says Niederhauser. “There seems to be some workability between the House and the Senate and it makes things go a lot smoother.”
Niederhauser says that accelerated push on the budget will relieve some of the pressure that normally comes with the last few days of the session.
“We’re at least one or two days ahead of that schedule. That’s nice because we’ll probably not stay as late on Tuesday and Wednesday. We’ll probably stay until Midnight on the last night. It put our staff under a lot of pressure to stay late Tuesday and Wednesday and Thursday. It was hard on the legislators and the staff. We made the agreement to not stay as late those nights just to give them a break and then come back and do an endurance run on Thursday.”
