Romney to Skip GOP Convention

Mitt RomneyMitt Romney, who won the GOP nomination in 2012, says he will not attend the 2016 GOP convention in Cleveland.

Romney’s decision to skip this summer’s event is indicative of Romney’s unease with Donald Trump, who is set to win the Republican nomination. Romney delivered a blistering speech opposing Trump in March.

The Washington Post says Romney is not the only prominent Republican refusing to get behind Trump.

A Romney aide told The Washington Post on Thursday morning, “Governor Romney has no plans to attend convention.”

“I don’t care,” Trump said. “He can be there if he wants.”

Romney’s announcement comes after the GOP’s two living former presidents — George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush — announced Wednesday night through their spokesmen that they did not plan to endorse a candidate this year.
