Study Suggests Utah’s Voters Among Most Apathetic in the Nation

Utah has some of the least engaged voters in the country.

That’s according to Nerd Wallet, which ranked all 50 states and the District of Columbia on what percentage of citizens are registered to vote and how many of those actually went to the polls in 2012.

The Beehive State came in 47th out of 51. Only Arkansas, Oklahoma, West Virginia and Hawaii scored lower.

The top 10 states were:

  • Washington, D.C.
  • Mississippi
  • Minnesota
  • Wisconsin
  • Massachusetts
  • North Carolina
  • Iowa
  • Maine
  • New Hampshire
  • Michigan

Nationally, 71% of citizens are registered to vote and only 61.8% hit the polls on election day.
