Salt Lake City Council Unanimously Confirms Lara Fritts as Director of Economic Development

Lara Fritts, Mayor Jackie Biskupski’s appointee for Salt Lake City Economic Development Director, was unanimously confirmed Tuesday night by the Salt Lake City Council. 

Earlier in the day, the seven-member council interviewed Lara Fritts during its work session in its advice and consent role for executive appointments.

“I’m very excited to be confirmed to this new position and to help shape Salt Lake City’s bright economic future,” Lara Fritts said. “I intend to work with my team, the Mayor, and the City Council to build a strong organization dedicated to business development and in promoting this city’s special and unique opportunities.”

Lara Fritts will lead the Mayor’s proposed alignment of pivotal drivers of the city economy, including the RDA and the Salt Lake City Arts Council, under a Cabinet-level Economic Development Department.

“Lara is ready to get to work in using every economic tool we have in actively promoting our city and building our economy,” Mayor Biskupski said. “I want to thank the City Council for their vote of confidence.”

Lara Fritts is a native of Green Bay, Wisconsin and has been involved in economic development work in Wisconsin, Virginia, and Maryland. She was most recently a business development consultant in Virginia and prior to that the President/CEO of the Economic Development Corporation of Annapolis, Maryland. She holds a Master’s Degree in Urban Studies from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and is a certified Economic Development Professional.
