Press Release: Rep. Mia Love Honors Payson Cancer Survivor at Congressional Softball Game

A bipartisan team of Congresswomen took on the D.C. Press Corps (AKA the Bad News Babes) in the official Congressional Women’s Softball Game last week.

Congresswoman Mia Love and her colleagues came ready to defeat the opposing team, at the same time raising money and awareness for young women with breast cancer, through the Young Survival Coalition.  The Bad News Babes won the competitive match 8-4.

“This was a competitive game where the ultimate fight is against cancer, and the ultimate celebration is for cancer survivors,” Rep. Love said.

Congresswoman Love was honoring Payson resident and breast cancer survivor Shannon Poulsen, who was present at the game.  Shannon started her fight against aggressive stage 3 breast cancer in 2015, enduring eight chemotherapy treatments, followed by 25 radiation treatments.  After a long fight, she says she is blessed to announce she is cancer free.

“I have had amazing doctors through this battle, and one office in particular has become like family,” Shannon said recently.   “I’m so grateful for the opportunity I have to travel to Washington D.C. with my husband, who I also consider a survivor.”
