Utah official tapped to lead federal Fish and Wildlife Service

Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke has named Greg Sheehan, currently the Wildlife Director for the Utah Department of Natural Resources, to take over the newly-created position of Fish and Wildlife Services deputy director.

Sheehan will lead the FWS until a permanent director is nominated by President Trump and confirmed by the Senate.

From E&E News:

“We are grateful to have Greg Sheehan join our team and help lead [FWS] as we advance a pro-conservation and more collaborative agenda at the Department,” said Zinke, who oversees the service.

“His experience and proven record in wildlife service as well as his organizational management skills will be an invaluable asset to the Service and the Department,” the secretary added in a press release.

Most top officials at FWS are either scientists or lawmen, but Sheehan’s background is in business.

Sheehan is not the only Utahn who may be up for a position within Trump’s Interior Department. Rep. Mike Noel, R-Kanab, previously told UtahPolicy.com he has “a good chance” of becoming the head of the Bureau of Land Management in the Trump administration.
