New Utah PAC aiming to support ‘pragmatic’ candidates for office

A new political action committee aims to boost “pragmatic” candidates in Utah.

Organizers of the “Coalition of the Willing” PAC say their mission is different from other political action committees which are based around a particular issue. They want to help candidates who will seek pragmatic solutions to problems in Utah.

Jeremy Roberts, who is putting in the initial $25,000 for the PAC says they’re not going to impose a “purity test” on the candidates they support. He says every other PAC has a “pet issue” that they want to promote.

“The current conservative vs. liberal debate in our politics is boring,” says Roberts. “We want to promote candidates who can get things done.”

Roberts tells UtahPolicy.com they chose the name of the organization because we’re “talking past each other” in today’s political environment.

“Look at the example set by our founding fathers. They did not agree on everything, but they at least stayed in the room to talk,” he says.

Roberts, who has held leadership positions with various Utah Republican organizations, says the new PAC will not focus on political party.

“Look at (Democrat) Karen Mayne,” he says. “She’s one of the most effective legislators on the Hill. We need more people like that in our legislature.”

Roberts says they will be filing the paperwork for the new PAC this week.
