This past weekend, the Log Cabin Republicans presented Rep. Chris Stewart (R-UT) with the Congressional Champion Award. This award is given to a member of Congress who has proven themselves to be a reliable leader for causes important to the conservative LGBT community. Rep. Stewart was the recipient of this award for his introduction of and continued persistence for the Fairness For All Act.
“It’s an honor to be recognized by such an important community,” said Rep. Stewart. “Everyone deserves their chance at the American Dream, regardless of their race, religion, or sexuality. That ideal can only be realized by loving our neighbors and striving for greater unity. The Fairness For All Act is a balanced, commonsense means of achieving that end. This country can accommodate civil liberties for both LGBT individuals and religious freedom. And I will not stop working until we do just that.”
First Lady Melania Trump, Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel, and Ambassador Richard Grenell were also celebrated for their invaluable efforts.
First Lady Melanie Trump was the Log Cabin Republicans’ guest of honor, as she was presented with the Spirit of Lincoln Award for her commitment to enhancing personal freedom, encouraging individual responsibility, and ensuring quality for all Americans. Chairwoman McDaniel is the recipient of this year’s Majority Maker Award because of the RNC’s unprecedented steps towards building a representative and diverse bench under her leadership. Ambassador Grenell was presented with the Game Changer Award for both his visible role in the Trump Administration as the first openly gay man to serve in a cabinet-level position and his subsequent advocacy for the Log Cabin Republicans.
