Salt Lake County recognized for excellence in financial management

The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) awarded Salt Lake County the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for the fiscal year that ended December 31, 2021.

Salt Lake County’s 2021 annual comprehensive financial report won the award for demonstrating a “spirit of full disclosure” and clear communication.

“Salt Lake County is one of the best-run counties in the nation, and we are again being recognized for our success,” said Salt Lake County Mayor Jenny Wilson. “When our behind-the-scenes processes are done well, our residents benefit.”

The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting and represents a significant accomplishment for Salt Lake County. This is the 35th consecutive year that Salt Lake County has achieved this prestigious award.

“Salt Lake County’s accounting team is second to none and I’m very proud of their dedication to the financial integrity of Salt Lake County,” said Deputy Mayor Darrin Casper, Salt Lake County’s Chief Financial Officer.

Salt Lake County’s AAA bond rating remains one of the strongest in the nation, with three major rating agencies giving Salt Lake County the highest possible rating of AAA on its underlying general obligation debt, effectively placing it in the top 1% of all counties in terms of creditworthiness.
