Today, the Salt Lake County Council approved a bipartisan resolution calling for Utah State Board of Education Member Natalie Cline to resign.
Salt Lake County Mayor Jenny Wilson’s Statement Below:
“I stand with The Salt Lake County Council in calling for the immediate resignation of Board Member Natalie Cline from the Utah State Board of Education. We also extend our steadfast support to the young athlete targeted, her family, her teammates, and all within our community who have been affected.
Board Member Cline’s misuse of social media to disseminate misinformation and bully a high school student is inexcusable and fundamentally inconsistent with the values of Salt Lake County. Her role should be to safeguard the welfare and education of our children. Instead, her actions have jeopardized the well-being of the students involved and cast a shadow over our schools, undermining the sense of safety and community we strive to maintain.
Unfortunately, this incident is not isolated. Board Member Cline has a history of spreading false information, leading to threats of violence against her targets. We must question how many more times we will allow her actions to put our students and educators in danger.
Salt Lake County has zero tolerance for bullying or misinformation. We are dedicated to fostering an environment where every student can thrive, free from fear and harassment.”
