Rep. Clancy convening state leaders to address recidivism and re-entry

Rep. Tyler Clancy, (R-Provo), is convening a statewide task force focused on reducing recidivism and improving re-entry for individuals leaving incarceration.

“We have to stop the revolving door…” Rep. Clancy said. “Utahns across our state agree that our current system can be improved to help those leaving incarceration break the cycle of recidivism and work to become crime-free, drug-free, and gainfully employed.”

Clancy’s task force includes representatives from the business community, labor leaders, the Governor’s Office, law enforcement, the Department of Corrections, and individuals with lived experience. The task force is planning to meet 4 times prior to the 2025 legislative session.

Brian Redd, Executive Director of the Department of Corrections added, “Sound reentry practices require partnerships and intention. This effort is critical to our success as a state. Working together, we will provide opportunities for returning citizens, resulting in improved lives and safer communities. We appreciate Representative Clancy, the legislature, and our many partners for joining together on this important initiative.”

The first meeting will be held this Friday, May 31st from 10:00-11:30 am at the Utah State Capitol.
