The Utah Senate Minority Caucus issues the following statement after the passing of Senator Ralph Okerlund:
“We join the mourning and deep sadness of the passing of former Majority Leader Ralph Okerlund. During his twelve years of legislative service, Senator Okerlund embodied what it meant to be a working, civil servant. He deeply cared and understood the needs for not only his rural community, but for all rural areas of Utah.
“We began our legislative career in the Senate the same year and built a working relationship. We often found similarities despite the differences between his rural and my urban district. I deeply appreciate his commitment to protecting our state’s natural resources, especially water, which is a paramount issue surrounding our state. His commitment to working with the Minority Caucus and incredible kindness will not be forgotten. My thoughts and condolences go to his wife Cindy and three children at this difficult time.” -Senate Minority Leader Luz Escamilla
