Salt Lake County Democratic Party applauds county leadership and public employees for reducing cost of living

The Salt Lake County Democratic Party extends its heartfelt congratulations to Mayor Jenny Wilson, the County Council, and all public employees for their unwavering dedication to enacting policies that have effectively lowered the cost of living for residents. Their collective efforts exemplify the principles of common-sense public service and a steadfast commitment to serving the people over politics.

In her 2025 State of the County Address, Mayor Wilson highlighted several key achievements that have contributed to making life more affordable for Salt Lake County residents:

  • Affordable Housing Initiatives: The county has successfully implemented programs that have increased the availability of nearly 1,600 affordable housing units, ensuring that more families have access to safe and affordable homes. Fifty percent of those units will provide a home to individuals making less than $40,150 per year.
  • Free and Low Cost Services: The county provides meals and connections at senior centers, free microchips for pets, health clinics, fitness classes, outdoor recreation, children’s storytime, adaptive recreation for people with disabilities, licensed childcare, and Zoo Arts and Parks funded events.
    • 2,000,000 visits to a Salt Lake County recreation center in 2024
    • 464,000 rounds of golf were played at County golf courses, and
    • Hundreds of thousands of people enjoyed county parks, trails, and open spaces.
  • Healthy Kids: Since the launch last June, the My County Rec Pass for Salt Lake County kids, nearly 69,000 youth have become pass holders.

These accomplishments are a testament to the Mayor’s focus on practical solutions that directly benefit its citizens and a full listing of free or low cost County services can be found at https://www.saltlakecounty.gov/family.

“Local governance is where we can make a significant impact, especially amidst the chaos at the federal level,” said Jade Velazquez, Chair of the Salt Lake County Democratic Party. “Our local representatives serve as a safety net, protecting our most vulnerable populations and ensuring that the needs of our community are met with compassion and efficiency.”

The Salt Lake County Democratic Party remains committed to supporting policies and leaders that prioritize the well-being of all 1.2 million Salt Lake County residents. We express our deepest gratitude to every public employee whose daily contributions make these achievements possible.
