Utah House Democratic leadership team oppose the passage of tax cut bill that primarily benefits the wealthy and out-of-state corporations

The Utah House Democratic Leadership team released the following statement on H.B. 106 Income Tax Revisions.

“We oppose H.B. 106 Income Tax Revisions, legislation that claims to benefit all Utahns but disproportionately favors out-of-state corporations and the state’s wealthiest residents. We appreciate the efforts this bill takes to increase the availability of childcare in Utah. However, this tax cut offers minimal relief for everyday families, removes potential funding for critical services, and jeopardizes Utah’s financial future.

At a time when many Utahns are struggling to afford basic necessities, our priorities should be clear: eliminating the food sales tax and providing tax relief for seniors on Social Security. Our majority leaders, however, continue prioritizing the economic interests of a select few rather than families who need support the most. H.B. 106 will continue to divert state resources from critical areas like education and housing.

Tax policies should uplift all Utahns, not just the wealthy elite. We urge Utahns to encourage their Senators to reject this bill and instead focus on solutions that create impactful, widespread economic security for all Utahns.”
