USBE invites educators to attend Personalized Competency-Based Learning Summit

Educators across Utah will come together on March 27 to explore new ways to improve student learning through personalized, skills-based teaching methods. The Utah State Board of Education’s Personalized Competency-Based Learning (PCBL) Summit will take place at the Davis Conference Center, offering teachers new strategies to tailor lessons to each student’s needs.

The event will feature keynote speakers, including national education expert Dr. Cory Steiner and author Joe Feldman, discussing insights on successful system-wide PCBL implementation and practical strategies for integrating competency-based learning. Educator-led breakouts will cover topics from building systems that center learning instead of seat time for students and teaching deeper learning skills through the Utah Core Standards.

“This event is about giving teachers the tools they need to help students establish and achieve their personal vision of success,” said PCBL Specialist Nathan Auck. “We’re seeing a shift in education where content knowledge and durable skills are equally important in effectively empowering students to reach these goals.”

The summit is part of Utah’s broader effort to modernize learning approaches in classrooms across the state. More than 300 educators attended last year’s event, and organizers expect a strong turnout again this year.
